Intelligent Transport Systems, debated at UPT

ITS Romania Congress 2019, a European event

The Conference Center at Politehnica University Timisoara hosted on Thursday, May 16th, the opening ceremony of the ITS Romania Congress 2019, an event of European proportions, organized by ITS Romania (the Romanian Organization for Implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems) with UPT and Timisoara City Hall, which takes place under the Patronage of the Presidency of Romania at the Council of the European Union, with representative national and European participation.

In the opening of the Congress the floor was taken by assoc. prof. eng. Eugen Ghita, PhD, Politehnica University Timisoara, Ovidiu Marcel Sirbu, Secretary of State for Transport, a graduate of UPT and now PhD student at the university, Claire Depre, chairman of the international ITS network, Nicolae Robu, mayor of Timisoara and Dorin Dumitrescu, president of ITS Romania. It was stressed on this occasion, the maximum interest that is shown in Timisoara to the field (the only city in Romania which has transport with trams, trolleybuses, buses, ships, bicycles, scooters and soon Segway), but also the UPT activity, the Timişoara Polytechnic being one of the most active ITS members and the first Romanian higher education institution, which has the founding of an ITS research center in progress, an avant-garde field.

The ITS Romania 2019 Congress has the role of facilitating the exchange of information and know-how between authorities and the professional community, academia, industry, technology providers, users, as well as between national and European initiatives.

In the Congress are debated topical themes such as: Digital transport infrastructure - present and future; Smart cities and ecological mobility; Transport information and mobility as a service; Intelligent multimodal systems for freight and logistics; Big Data, IoT, Connected and Automated Management - Challenges and Opportunities for Traffic Management; Policies, standards, research and innovation, training and education in the field of STIs.

The event is also a jubilee edition, celebrating 20 years of ITS Romania, 15 years of activity as a founding member of the Network of National ITS Associations, where ITS Romania holds the position of Vice President in its third term.
