"Space Kids” at the UPT Library
After not long ago, in February this year, it hosted the first edition of the Space Education Gala, Politehnica University Timișoara was again the venue of a new event that confirms the technological potential of the city, but also the interest manifested in the field of space technologies by students, teachers, IT companies.
Timisoara Space Kids aims to promote the opportunities for Timişoara pupils to participate in competitions and educational activities with spatial themes, but also to create a community of all those with concerns in the field. The first edition of Space Kids took place on Monday, June 3, 2019, at Politehnica University Timișoara Library, and demonstrations of the teams took place on the hall of the UPT Conference Center.
The event was attended first and foremost by high school students, as well as by students from the 7th and 8th grades, interested in the fields of astronomy, programming, robotics, 3D modeling, for which Zero Robotics, FIRST Tech Challenge, Climate Detectives, Moon Camp Challenge, CanSat, or ExoRo are not just strange names, but they are, or may soon become, learning contexts and extra-curricular development in space and science.
The event included ESERO Romania, Banat IT or CoderDojo Timisoara space presentations, presentations of competitions attended by Timisoara teams, panel discussions about personal experiences and the benefits of participating students as well as workshops and hands-on demonstrations on working with hardware and software specific to the projects enrolled in those competitions.
The participating teams presented their own projects at their own stands and interacted with the other participants in the event, giving them details and encouragement for future involvement.
As with the previous event, the Space Learning Gala, the organizers want to offer guarantees to the young people with the preoccupation that they can study these top technologies and that they can pursue a career in the field here in Timisoara.
