UPT coordinates an international research project on thermonuclear fusion

The online launch meeting of the international research project AUF CE/MB/045/2021 „Cinétique des cations moléculaires induite par les électrons dans le plasma de bord d’ITER (CiCaM – ITER)” (“Kinetics of electron-induced molecular cations in ITER on-board plasma – CiCaM-ITER) will take place on Monday, 17 May 2021, at 17:00. The project is carried out as part of the Call of the University Agency for Francophonie in Central and Eastern Europe “Soutien aux structures de recherche et innovation en Europe centrale et orientale – SRI-ECO 2021”.

The project is coordinated by assoc. prof. Nicolina Pop, Ph.D., Department of Fundamental Physical for Engineering, from Politehnica University Timișoara, in partnership with Université Le Havre Normandie, France, and the University of West Timișoara.

The project proposes a theoretical study of reactive collisions between electrons and molecular cations using the MQDT (Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory) method, providing effective sections and reaction coefficients. Dissociative recombination, rovibrational and dissociative excitation of molecular cations with electrons are major elementary processes in the kinetics and energy balance of ionized media, intervening in fusion plasma at the reactor walls, in astrophysics and other environments of technological interest. Numerical calculations will be performed for the diatomic cations H₂⁺, BeH⁺ and their isotopomers. The purpose is to provide the necessary information in applications related to magnetically controlled thermonuclear fusion energy. Collaboration with researchers in France amplifies the joint efforts that led to the publication of articles dedicated to molecules containing H, D, T and / or Be, extending the energy domain of the incident electron.

The project takes place between May 1, 2021 and April 31, 2022.
