Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara (UPT) își asumă responsabilitatea de a promova practici de transport sustenabil în rândul studenților, cadrelor didactice și personalului administrativ. În acest sens, UPT se angajează să măsoare și să stabilească ținte concrete pentru a încuraja formele de transport care reduc impactul asupra mediului.

Monitorizarea modalităților de transport:

UPT va monitoriza continuu modalitățile de transport utilizate de comunitatea universitară pentru a înțelege mai bine impactul asupra mediului și pentru a identifica zonele în care se pot realiza îmbunătățiri.

Stabilirea țintelor de reducere a emisiilor:

Vom stabili ținte clare și măsurabile pentru reducerea utilizării transportului motorizat, promovând în schimb opțiuni mai sustenabile precum mersul pe jos, ciclismul, carpooling-ul, utilizarea transportului public, motocicletele, scuterele sau vehiculele electrice.

Infrastructură pentru transport sustenabil:

UPT va continua să investească în infrastructură care sprijină formele de transport sustenabil, cum ar fi parcările sigure pentru biciclete, stațiile de încărcare pentru vehicule electrice și facilități pentru transportul în comun. To further support green transportation and campus sustainability, UPT received a sponsorship of an electric car – BAW MINI EV PONY, a 100% electric vehicle used by the university in various projects, events, and student-centered activities. This vehicle is part of the university’s strategy to promote electromobility and awareness of sustainable transport solutions, being used for short-distance logistics, event mobility, and sustainability campaigns coordinated by the UPT Sustainability Department.

UPT va oferi stimulente și programe de sprijin pentru persoanele care adoptă moduri de transport sustenabile, inclusiv abonamente de transport public reduse, facilități pentru carpooling și evenimente dedicate, cum ar fi zilele fără mașină. Politehnica University of Timișoara (UPT) ensures sustainable and accessible mobility options for its students and staff through strong partnerships with the Timișoara Public Transport Company (Societatea de Transport PublicTimișoara – STPT) and through the promotion of active, low-carbon transport alternatives.

Public Transport Subsidies for Students. In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 199/2023 on Higher Education and the University Senate Decision (HCA) No. 162/31.10.2023, UPT students benefit from reimbursed public transport passes throughout the academic year as follows:

90% reimbursement of transport subscription costs for all full-time bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studentsenrolled at UPT, up to the age of 30.

100% reimbursement for full-time students and PhD candidates under the age of 30 who belong to one of the following categories:

Students who have lost one or both parents;

Students from foster care or placement centers;
-
Students raised by extended or substitute families, or by foster parents, as defined by Law No. 272/2004 on child protection and welfare.

Public Transport Network and Accessibility
UPT maintains an active collaboration with STPT, the main public transport operator in Timișoara, providing students with a diverse and efficient transport network, including:

Trams, connecting major university sites and dormitories to the city center and other districts;

Buses and trolleybuses, offering direct connections between campuses, residential areas, and industrial or research zones;

Bicycle-sharing and electric scooter services, integrated with the city’s public transport system and available near most UPT buildings and student residences.

Campus Location and Walking Accessibility
The main university campus is located in a central and compact area of Timișoara, within walking distance of the historic city center. The close proximity of faculties, student dormitories, cafeterias, and administrative buildings significantly reduces the need for motorized travel, encouraging students and staff to walk or cycle between facilities.
This favorable positioning, combined with public transport incentives and sustainable mobility infrastructure, aligns with UPT’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint and fostering a green, accessible urban campus environment.
