Politehnica University Timisoara received the visit of legendary footballer Marcel Răducanu, who had a meeting with the rector of the institution, prof. eng. Viorel-Aurel Şerban, PhD, a true supporter of sport in general and that of UPT in particular. The meeting established the foundations of a collaboration of the football school that Marcel Răducanu holds in Dortmund, Germany, with Politehnica University Timişoara.

Annually, the famous footballer organizes Marcel Răducanu Campus in Timişoara for children from all over the country, willing to learn the secrets of football from a master of this sport. This year is the sixth edition, and the best have the chance to attend a training course at the Marcel Răducanu Football School in Dortmund. Once this collaboration with Politehnica University Timisoara has been established, the training will take place at Știința’s sports base.

Marcel Răducanu was nominated the Romanian Football Player of the 1980s and is a glory of Borussia Dortmund. He was born on 21 October 1954 in Bucharest. He stood at Steaua and then in the national team of Romania (21 selections and 3 goals), marking one of the goals of the historic victory of the national team, 2-1 with England in 1980.

The following year he chose to "stay" in Federal Germany, where he still lives today. The player's career ended in Zurich in 1990. Since the 1990s he has opened a football school in Dortmund, and has also been involved in junior competitions in Timisoara. He was one of the coaches who polished Mario Götze, the single goal marker of the CM 2014 final, Germany - Argentina 1-0.
