Politehnica University consolidates its position in the European space of education by being included in the university alliance E³UDRES². Other members of the alliance are St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences (Austria), Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (Portugal), Politehnica Timișoara University (Romania), Szent Istvan University Gödöllö (Hungary), UC Leuven Limburg (Belgium), Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (Latvia).

European universities are transnational alliances of EU higher education institutions, which associate for the benefit of students, teachers, and society as a whole. On 9 July 2020, the European Commission announced the 24 new European universities joining the top 17 alliances of higher education institutions selected since 2019. With financial support through the Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programs, they increase quality, inclusion, digitization, and attractiveness of European higher education.

Selected from 62 applications, the 24 European universities involve 165 higher education institutions from 26 Member States and other countries participating in the Erasmus+ program. They will expand cooperation between institutions, students, and their staff and combine resources, courses, expertise, data, and infrastructure, both physically and online. The project will help them promote green and inclusive transitions for the benefit of their students and all Europeans.

In total, a budget of up to EUR 287 million is available for the 41 European universities, through the Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programs, for three years, to start implementing their plans and to ensure access to other institutions. higher education across the EU. Funding from both programs is an important step in strengthening the interactions between the European Education Area and the European Research Area.

The European Commission proposed to European Union leaders the European Universities Initiative ahead of the Gothenburg Social Summit in November 2017 as part of a global vision to create a European Education Area by 2025. The initiative was supported by the European Council in December 2017, calling for the creation of at least 20 European universities by 2024. The concept of European universities was created under the guidance of the European Commission, in close cooperation with the Member States, higher education institutions, and student organizations.
