A live virtual tour in the public and intimate past life of the Elisabetin neighborhood, five live interventions from the emblematic locations of the street exhibition, live demonstrations with online, mobile and augmented reality applications and dozens of guests including people of culture, Timișoara City Hall and Timiș County Council representatives, but also the management of Politehnica University Timișoara, of the National Museum of Banat Timișoara and the Timișoara European Capital of Culture Association. The digital exhibitions and applications Spotlight Heritage Timișoara dedicated to the Elisabetin neighborhood were launched virtually, on Friday, November 13, in the presence of hundreds of Timisoara residents and more.

Hundreds of people from Timișoara and beyond have relived the atmosphere of the old Elisabetin neighborhood, online, within the Virtual Opening: Heritage under the spotlight. The Elisabetin neighborhood and Netti Dr. Diel - a world in a chest. The event was organized by the e-Learning Center and the Multimedia Center - Politehnica University Timișoara in partnership with the Banat National Museum in Timișoara and the Timișoara European Capital of Culture Association and brought together over 300 online participants from Romania, USA, Spain, and Moldova, on the Zoom, Facebook and YouTube platforms and included real-time broadcasts from over five locations in the Elisabetin neighborhood, but also the Maria Theresia Bastion.

The host of the event was Dr. Diana Andone, Ph.D., director of the e-Learning Center - Politehnica University Timișoara, who marked the virtual opening with Ruben Lațcău - the representative of Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timișoara, Viorel Coifan - the counselor of the County Council president, Alin Nica, associate professor eng., Florin Dragan, Ph.D. - rector of Politehnica University Timisoara, prof. eng. Radu Vasiu, Ph.D. - president of the UPT Senate and director of the Multimedia Center, Claudiu Ilaș - director of the Banat National Museum in Timișoara, Dr. Simona Neumann - director of the Timișoara European Capital of Culture Association, Marius Cornea - project coordinator at the Banat National Museum in Timișoara and prof. architect Ioan Andreescu - dean of the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning within UPT.

With the theme of touch, the year 2020 brought under the spotlight the stories and atmosphere of the Elisabetin neighborhood, told from the perspective of Netti Dr. Diel, whose memories extracted from fragments of the manuscript "Family Diary", by Prof. Pia Brînzeu, Ph.D., contributed to illustrate the atmosphere of everyday life in the old neighborhood.

During the opening, the following were also launched: the exhibition “Heritage under spotlights. Elisabetin neighborhood and Netti Dr. Diel - a world in a chest”, opened at Maria Theresia Bastion between November 13, 2020 - January 31, 2021, the street exhibitions with information panels from the 16 emblematic locations of Elisabetin neighborhood, but also online, mobile and augmented reality applications, through which the public can find the old and new stories of Timisoara online and can even travel around the old Elisabetin neighborhood, with the help of virtual reality.

Live festive vintage dinner and virtual tour of the exhibition

The host of the Maria Theresia Bastion was Marius Cornea - Banat National Museum, who, through a series of live interventions, offered participants a virtual tour of the exhibition, illustrating the atmosphere of the nineteenth-century Elisabetin neighborhood. The people of Timișoara can still visit the exhibition at the Maria Theresia Bastion, Martin Luther Street no. 4, which is open to the public until January 31, 2021.

Historical moments played by experts, live, from the street exhibition

The street exhibitions in the 16 stations of the Elisabetin neighborhood were launched through a series of live interventions by experts from the Banat National Museum in Timisoara and the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning of UPT, who told participants about the history and architecture of buildings and monuments, right next to the Spotlight Heritage Timișoara on-site information panels. The people of Timișoara can visit the street exhibitions located in the Elisabetin neighborhood until January 31, 2021.

The web page with online stories from the past and now displayed on an interactive table

The project website - with old and new stories dedicated to the Elisabetin neighborhood was presented to the public on a state-of-the-art device - the interactive table displayed at Theresia Bastion - through which participants could take a tour of the website and sections dedicated to the Elisabetin neighborhood.

The Elisabetin neighborhood of today and yesterday, relived through enhanced technological experiences

Because the experiences offered by Spotlight Heritage Timișoara want to be complex and improved by the latest technologies, the mobile and augmented reality applications Spotlight Heritage Timișoara were launched during the opening, through a live demonstration offered to those in the audience with multiple functionalities of the applications, which identify the 16 locations in the Elisabetin neighborhood, presented by several methods: text with location information and memories of Netti Diel from each landmark, written as text and narrated in an audio clip by prof Dr. Pia Brânzeu, a gallery of images - both current and old images, videos and 360-degree images from each location, so that anyone can create the feeling of being inside the building or in front of the building. Besides, once you are near the Elisabetin neighborhood and in front of a building, the Augmented Reality (AR) function recognizes the building and will offer information about it. Pointing the phone's camera at the building, you can see the old facade of the building over the current one.

The Spotlight Heritage Timișoara project is part of the series of activities dedicated to the 100th anniversary of university education in Timișoara, Politehnica 100, the first 100 years of Politehnica University Timișoara, also celebrating the coherent and innovative development of online education in the university.
