On September 24, 2018, in the festive hall of the Timisoara Branch of the Romanian Academy the meeting for the election of the new chairman of the subsidiary for a four-year term was held. The meeting was led by acad. Răzvan Teodorescu, Vice-President of the Romanian Academy.

By the unanimous vote of the Timisoara members of the Romanian Academy, Academician Dan Dubina, a professor at Politehnica University Timisoara, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Metal Construction and Mechanics of Construction (CMMC), a specialist and a high-profile researcher at a national and international scientific scale in the field of civil engineering, metal, a disciple and successor of well-known academician Dan Mateescu, was elected president of the Timișoara branch.

The elections were validated on September 26 by the Presidium of the Academy, and on October 3, the Academy Chancellery issued the appointment decision.

Academician Dan Dubină has been a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy since 2010, and since April 2015, he has been a full-fledged member. Acad. Dan Dubină is also a senior researcher I and head of the Metal and Welding Section of the Center for Fundamental and Applied Technical Research  (CCTFA) of the Romanian Academy - Timisoara Branch.

Dan Dubină, 68, is a personality with remarkable recognition and national and international visibility, with an impressive resume, with two works awarded with the Anghel Saligny Award in 1990 and 2012, by Romanian Academy, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Honorary Professor of the University of Pécs, Hungary. He published an impressive number of reference works in the field of structural engineering and metallic constructions, published in prestigious international magazines and publications, he authored inventions, EU projects evaluator, laureate of the European Steel Design Award, 2003 and 2007, member in doctoral commissions from France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Hong Kong, India, Australia, leading member of some institutions, organizations and professional associations in the field of civil engineering. He held conferences and lectures at international events and universities in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Convention of Metallic structures, based in Brussels; in 2005-2006 he was the president of this organization. From 200. he represented Romania in COSCO - Coal and Steel Committee for the European Coal and Steel Research Fund - RFCS.
