The Faculty of Architecture and City Planning of the Politehnica University Timișoara and the Order of the Architects in România, the Timiș Branch, organized on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Bastion Multifunctional Center in Hector Street no. 4, Timişoara, the opening of the projects exhibition "MALURILE BEGĂI - STRATEGII PENTRU 2021".

The exhibition includes projects realized by students from the 4th and 5th years of the Politehnica University Timişoara - Faculty of Architecture and City Planning, within the design of architecture. A topic addressed was the main project of the Timisoara European Capital of Culture bid: "Multiplexity 2021, Center of Art - Technology - Experimentation", which is meant to be an experimental space through technology and art. According to the same document, this project will be funded from the local budget and European funds (€ 12,000,000), and the year of completion should be 2020. Since no emplacement has been selected for this project, the students have made proposals for solutions on a hypothetical site, the former industrial area - the Prohaska mill, located on the Bega Canal, a site with a particularly important historical and patrimonial load. Projects are personal and different approaches to the Multiplexity Center's operation concept and to the intervention of a heritage object that is not in the best conditions.

Another topic addressed was the reconfiguration of the public space along the sides of the Bega in the Fabric Quarter. Starting from a multicriterial analysis of the historic district, this project identified alternative methods of intervening on the banks of the Bega Channel so that the entire area is reactivated. The theme proposes a debate on the punctual interventions on the public space in a historical neighborhood in relation to the speculative real estate transactions, disconnected from a coherent strategy regarding the potential of the Bega Canal in Timișoara.

The opening was followed by a discussion on the cultural infrastructure projects proposed in the European Capital of Culture Capital Timișoara, amounting to EUR 55 million and with deadlines until 2020.

Even if the students did not intend to give lessons with this exhibition, the works being just an exercise, it is good that the young people from the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning are connected to the problems of Timișoara, they are interested in them, and in the future even the license works will be more applied to the city and its problems.

The exhibition will remain open and can be visited for 10 days.
