Politehnica University Timisoara is, as in previous editions, a partner of the British Council in organizing FameLab 2021, the most important international science communication competition for the public, with British funding, open to young people aged between 21 and 40, studying or working in the fields of engineering, medicine, technology, biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics.

The FameLab competition aims to give a global voice to students and science professionals who can communicate their work to the general public, in order to promote understanding and support for research and reduce gaps in science education.

FameLab contestants have only 3 minutes to fascinate the audience and the jury with a presentation of a scientific topic, without using PowerPoint presentations or other helpful resources. The presentation must be fun, original, have scientific rigor and capture the attention of the uninformed public. Presentations are evaluated based on three criteria: content, clarity and charisma.

The regional pre-selection for the western part of the country, but not only, of the FameLab contest will be organized by Politehnica University Timișoara, together with the Western University Timișoara, on April 19, 2021 from 17:00.

To enter the contest, participants must complete the online form available on https://bit.ly/2OcGROo by March 31 and choose the online selection in which they will give their presentation. The online selection events will be organized online from April 1-19 by the partner universities and science organizations in the FameLab competition.

Following the selections, the competitors for the national final FameLab Romania will be designated, who will benefit from a communication masterclass given by specialists from Great Britain and Romania.

The winner of the national final FameLab Romania 2021 will have the opportunity to represent the country at the global final FameLab International, organized in the fall of this year.

Full information on registration, eligibility and competition stages is available on the FameLab website: https://bit.ly/2OcGROo

In Romania, the competition is at its 12th edition and is organized by the British Council and the Cheltenham Science Festival with the support of partner universities and science organizations in the country. The theme of the FameLab 2021 competition in Romania is “Science for a better future”, and aims to bring to the fore the essential role that scientific discoveries and technological developments have in solving the major problems of our world, from medical challenges to climate change.
