After spending years in amphitheaters, in classes, seminars and labs, but also in front of their computers for online learning, the students from Politehnica University Timisoara who had finished bachelor studies had their Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, July 2, 2022, - a show meant to bring back beautiful moments from the student years when they are getting ready to step on the new path ahead of them. They joined the other 135,000 graduates who had carried the Politehnica spirit in its over 100 years, and to reward their efforts, the UPT management gave them a memorable ceremony.

The 2022 UPT Graduation Ceremony started in front of the UPT Rectorate on Victory Square with a flash-mob and an artistic performance by the SuperChill band, followed by the graduates’ parade heading towards Știința Stadium.

After the UPT anthem, the evening was opened by the rector of Politehnica University Timisoara, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Florin Drăgan, Ph.D.,who talked a bit about Politehnica’s history with a century-long tradition, a university that, in the 80s, had created a myth, however based on reality, a myth that it was the only Romanian university whose diplomas are recognized internationally. That myth was thanks to Politehnica’s graduates, who were now joined by the class of 2022, and who had been building the prestige the university enjoys today at the national and international level. The UPT rector also stated that today’s society, more than ever before, requires lifelong learning and that they would have to be flexible, but that is what they were trained for and they have a great chance to build the future they want.

On behalf of the economic sector in Timisoara, Christian von Albrichsfeld, the general manager of Continental România, congratulated the graduates and highlighted the fact that in today’s increasingly technology-reliant society, where digitization, interconnection and electrical mobility are fundamental elements, the need for engineers is also increasing. Sorin Maxim, the general manager of ADR Vest, spoke about principles, responsibility, a job done well, patience and hope, adding that the institution he coordinates will offer, in the autumn of this year, the largest amount of money in its history in funding for supporting entrepreneurs that can be accessed by graduates.

The students’ representative in the UPT Administrative Board, Alex Luca, congratulated the graduates and urged them to follow their passions, but stay in the country, where they have many opportunities.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Radu Vasiu, Ph.D., the president of the UPT Senate, stated that the class of 2022 is a special one, given that they had been learning online for the longest time, had their meetings mostly on Zoom, but, paradoxically, had the most to win out of that situation since they are the first generation to understand the importance of digitization, individual responsibility, independent work, those constraints pushing their creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Next, representatives from the ten faculties of Politehnica Timisoara spoke about the beautiful student years, the friendships they had made along the way, being nervous, their thoughts for the future, the paths that were opening to them, and thanked the professors and their parents for their support.

Honoring UPT’s tradition to always reward performance, exceptional students were awarded “Magna Cum Laude” diplomas at the Graduation Ceremony. Those were awarded as signs of appreciation for remarkable academic results, for the graduates’ dedication and consistency to reaching performance standards in their didactic activity, reflected in the average score of 10 for  all the study years. The recipients of the “Magna Cum Laude” diplomas were: Cătălin Botean, Ionuț Orlando Grigore Atinuț, Alexandru Bâbălău, from the Faculty of Automation and Computers, Andreea Diana Clepe and Isabela Floroni, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The artistic program that closed the Graduation Ceremony, moderated by the well-known Dan Negru, included an inspirational speech by Oana Pellea, who spoke to the graduates about values, principles and life choices, followed by an extraordinary concert by Adrian Despot and the band Vița de Vie, and, in the end, a spectacular fireworks show. The event made for a memorable evening for the new graduates who have now joined the Alumni UPT community.
