Latin American graduates from the 1980s returned to Timișoara

An exciting meeting, specific to those of a Latin character, with hugs, a breakdown of memories during the student period, took place on Friday, September 6, at the UPT Conference Center, where they met for the first time in Romania since graduation, from the 1980s, Latin American graduates of the universities of Timisoara.

Before 1989, many young people from Latin American countries came to study at the universities of Timisoara. They also formed an Association of Former Latin American Students in Timisoara (Somos Latinos), which organizes regular meetings. The first such meetings were already held in Mexico, Peru and Colombia, enjoying great success, and now the former students have returned to Timisoara for the first time after graduation.

The central point of the meeting was the festive course that took place in the K1 amphitheater at the UPT Conference Center, an event organized in partnership by the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Peru in Timisoara and Politehnica University Timisoara.

The event was attended, along with the graduates of the promotions 1982 - 1990, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Peru in Romania, HE María Eugenia Echeverría Herrera, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Mexican United States in Romania, HE José Guillermo Ordorica Robles, representatives of the four universities state of Timisoara. The special guest of the event was Mrs. Coleta de Sabata, former rector of the Timisoara Polytechnic in that period, who also gave a note to the graduates who came with the student cards at that time.

The main purpose of the meeting was to keep the academic, cultural and friendship ties alive between Romania - the host country - and Latin America, as well as between universities, on the one hand, and the Alumni community, on the other.
