Hundreds of high-school students have once again signed up for the 8th edition of "Politehnica Timișoara - a step towards your future!". The event is dedicated to high school students, and aims to inform and familiarize them with the university environment to make the transition of graduates to higher education and their orientation towards a successful career easier. Enrolled students from all counties of the country had the opportunity to review the offer of Politehnica University Timisoara, the conditions offered, the details of the 2021 admission, but also to verify their knowledge, online, in fields of interest, by participating in eight national competitions organized by faculties, the occupants of the first three places being accepted to the corresponding faculties of Politehnica University, without taking the admission contest.

The 3rd edition of the "Hans Fackelmann" competition was organized at the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning. The results will be displayed on May 10, 2021, because the final stage consisted of two tests: practical test and interview, and the practical test will be evaluated in the upcoming days. Depending on their scores, participants will be divided into places and all those who fall on the first three places will be declared winners. Scoring is as follows: first place - 91-100 points; second place - 81-90 points; third place - 71-80 points. The novelty element for this edition is that it was organized in 2 categories: one for the Architecture specialization, and another for Furniture and interior design.

The Faculty of Automation and Computers organized the traditional IT Engineering Contest (iTEC), in two rounds, with 30 students qualified for the final stage. Participants from 23 counties signed up, most of them already having important results in other informatics competitions. A first prize, three second prizes, two third prizes and seven mentions were awarded. Those ranked on the top three places can be admitted to the faculty directly, as Olympians, and those who have obtained mentions receive the grade 10 in the math test in the admission exam.

The final stage of the national competition of ideas and projects in the field of environmental protection "Ecological Education Saves the Environment - EcoSmarTim", 5th edition, organized by the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Protection, brought together 61 projects coordinated by 47 teachers and developed by 102 students from 41 high school units in 16 counties of the country (including Bucharest). The contest had to be divided into 3 sections, one for ninth grade students, with 25 projects, the second for tenth graders, also with 25 projects and the third for the 11th and 12th grades, with 11 projects. According to the regulations, each project was developed by a team of a coordinating teacher and a maximum of 2 students. The submitted projects were presented by the student members of the competition team. The following prizes were awarded: Section 1 (ninth grade) - 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 10 mentions; Section 2 (10th grade) - 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 2 third prizes and 6 mentions; Section 3 (11th and 12th grades) - 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize and 3 mentions. Each section had its own judging committee, consisting of teachers from the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Ph.D. students and students representing the League of Chemistry Students from Timisoara.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering organized the 6th edition of the "Constructions - Tradition and Future" contest, held online, through which high-school students had the opportunity to understand what the universe of civil engineering means and to live, for a day, the faculty student experience. Enrolled students participated in a general online course on civil engineering, which covered the three areas of study within the faculty: civil engineering, installations engineering and geodetic engineering. The students had to solve an online, multiple-choice test, to verify the knowledge acquired after the course and to make an essay on "Constructions: Tradition and Future", to present their own vision on this topic (using information acquired in the course), as well as the possible motivation to become civil engineers. Five prizes have been awarded.

The Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies organized the first edition of the contest "Electronics between hardware and software", open to high-school students in the 11th and 12th grades, passionate about electronics, telecommunications, robotics, automation, regardless of the specifics of the high school or the specialization they follow. The contest involved the evaluation of projects made by students on the following topic: applications with microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi or equivalent, applications including sensors, monitoring, automation, applications with electronic circuits and robotics. At the end, seven prizes were awarded: two first prizes, two second prizes, a third prize and two mentions.

The professional idea competition "Intelligent Electricity Generation IEG-2021", the 10th edition, was organized by the Faculty of Electrical and Power Engineering in order to attract high school graduates with concerns in the field, creative, with practical skills and solid knowledge, to increase the quality of the teaching process within the faculty and, consequently, of the faculty graduates. The participants were high school students from the 10th, 11th and 12th grades, in teams from the same class or mixed, of up to five members, coordinated by physics or specialized teachers, who carry out teaching activities.

The Student Organization from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, with the support of the faculty teaching staff, organized the MecArt 2021 contest, which is in its 11th edition. Within the contest there were 5 sections: Design and 3D graphics; Mechanics; Photography; Drawing and painting; Coding. The competition took place in one round for each section. At the end of the competition, 20 prizes were offered, their winners being able to be admitted as future UPT students, with grade 10.

The 5th edition of the Communication Olympics, organized by the Faculty of Communication Sciences, which was attended by 160 students, was also a success. The participants were able to enter at most two of the four tests of the contest: Romanian language, composition - writing an essay between 300 and 500 words; English language (essay and translation) - writing an essay in English (between 300 and 500 words) and translating a text from English into Romanian; French language (essay and translation) - writing an essay in French (between 300 and 500 words) and translating a text from French into Romanian; German language (essay and translation) - writing an essay in German (between 300 and 500 words) and translating a text from German into Romanian. At the end of the competition, 12 prizes and 12 mentions were awarded, 3 prizes and 3 mentions for each event.
