Politehnica University Timisoara accepted the invitation and joined the "Green Friday" campaign, launched by the Ministry of the Environment declaring May 14, 2021 as the beginning of a series of projects - "Green Friday at UPT" - to encourage a healthy lifestyle and environmental protection. Teachers and students, but also all friends of Politehnica Timisoara are encouraged to, at least once a week, leave the car at home and use alternative means of transport: bicycle, scooter or, even better, walking, in order to reduce pollution.
The first rector of Politehnica University Timișoara (then called the Polytechnic School), Traian Lalescu, was also a great lover of sports. He also initiated the establishment of the first sports group of the Polytechnic School. The tradition of supporting the sports movement was continued by all the rectors who followed to the leadership of the institution. In fact, beyond the fact that sport is considered in Politehnica a discipline necessary for the basic training of a student, the university has always been the most important pillar for the development of the sports movement of the Timisoara community. The sports bases of Politehnica have remained open in the last year for all athletes, even if the efforts for their maintenance are significant.
Politehnica University Timisoara has probably the most important sports infrastructure of all universities in Romania. On all sports bases of UPT, both performance and university or mass activities are carried out. Știința Stadium, with night and athletics track, Sports Base no. 2, with football fields (with natural and artificial turf) and tennis courts, mini football fields, handball and basketball courts, gym, swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), sauna and fitness equipment, offers a lot of training opportunities. All these facilities are available to students free of charge.
In the future, Politehnica University Timișoara intends to carry out several projects in order to reduce pollution and protect the environment, while conducting information and awareness campaigns among students on the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
