International recognition for a UPT professor
International recognition of the value of professors is always a source of pride for the institution to which they belong.
Recently, the Italian Group of Fracture Association (IGF) awarded Professor Liviu MARȘAVINA, vice-rector of Politehnica University Timișoara and corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, the "Paolo Lazzarin" Medal, in appreciation of his outstanding research on the characterization of polymeric cellular materials and the successful application of the criterion of specific deformation energy when assessing the fracture of these materials.
The award ceremony took place at the 26th International Conference on Fracture and Structural Integrity organized by the Italian Group of Fracture from 26 to 31 May 2021 at the Politehnico di Torino University, Italy.
Dr. Paolo LAZZARIN (1957 - 2014) was a professor at the University of Padua, Italy, with outstanding contributions in the field of stress and deformation in the vicinity of fissures and notches. He proposed the breaking criterion based on the specific energy of average deformation with applications to static fracture and fatigue. He was the editor of the journal Wiley Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures. In his memory, the Italian Group of Fracture established, in 2019, the "Paolo Lazzarin" Medal.
Professor eng. Liviu Marșavina, Ph.D., has exceptional contributions in the fields of strength and testing of materials, mechanics of breaking and fatigue of materials, numerical and experimental analysis of stresses and strains. He is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in the experimental determination of the parameters of fracture mechanics, in the numerical simulation of crack propagation and in the development of modern methods for estimating the integrity and durability of structures.
