A new laboratory opened at UPT

The good relationship of Politehnica University Timișoara with the economic environment in the region, but also its role as a link between the pre-university environment and the labor market was proved once again on Saturday, February 8, 2020, when, at the UPT Faculty of Automation and Computers, a new Everseen laboratory was inaugurated.

The company Everseen, created 6-7 years ago with employees largely from the graduates of Politehnica University Timișoara, which is currently dealing with the research activity in the field of image interpretation, has funded the complete refurbishment and equipping of a machine learning and artificial intelligence laboratory with a network of high performance computers and a server, equipped with high performance graphics cards, the total value of the investment amounting to 35,000 euros.

The new laboratory will be used by students from the specialty of Computers and Information Technology (both Romanian and English) and is particularly useful, especially in the perspective of the new master's degree in Machine Learning, which will start since the fall of this year at UPT.

The inauguration of the new laboratory was also attended by 21 students from the high schools that have informatics profiles in Timisoara, selected from over 60 who expressed their interest for the machine learning and artificial intelligence course organized on this occasion. The students were able to see on this occasion how Politehnica University Timișoara works, which is the connection with the economic environment and, implicitly, with the labor market.

Also, the students were able to find out, on this occasion, what artificial intelligence is, what the prospects in this field of avant-garde are and even could apply the concepts they learned by programming some robots with the help of artificial intelligence, in the end being rewarded with prizes.
