A group of students from China will come to study at Politehnica University Timișoara, following the signing of an agreement establishing the China-Romania Master School, an event that took place on Monday, January 13, 2020, at UPT Rectorate. Initially, the Chinese student group was supposed to arrive at UPT in the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, but due to the novel Coronavirus epidemic, the application of the agreement was postponed until the conditions would allow it.

The collaboration of Politehnica University Timișoara with the Dianzi University of Hangzhou started in March 2019, when a delegation from the Chinese university visited the Timisoara Polytechnic, UPT being the first university in Central and Eastern Europe with which it establishes a partnership.

Later, at the end of May 2019, a delegation of Politehnica University Timișoara was in China, at the invitation of the Dianzi University of Hangzhou (HDU) where, in a festive setting, in which the traditional Sino-Romanian friendship and the hope that the collaboration would prove fruitful for both parties were emphasized, a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed. It laid the foundations for future joint projects regarding the organization of summer schools, involvement in research projects, bilateral exchange of teachers and students or cultural exchanges, the award of double diplomas.

A new stage in the development of the collaboration took place on Monday, January 13, 2020 when, at the headquarters of the Rectorate of Politehnica University Timișoara, the agreement establishing the China-Romania Master School was signed, UPT being represented by Prof. Viorel Aurel Şerban, PhD, Rector prof. eng. Marius Oteșteanu, PhD, Vice-Rector, Prof. Florin Alexa, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering and Information Technologies, and prof. Daniel Dejica-Carțiș, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, while HDU was represented by Mr. Xue Xiaofei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Mr. Wu Yiqiao, Secretary of the Party of the Foreign Language School, Mrs. Wang Qiulan, Director of Youth Association, Mr. He Zhiwei, vice-dean of the School of Electronics and Information, and Mrs. Fei Chenhan, director of the Student Exchange Division of the International Affairs Office. After the agreement was signed, the Chinese delegation visited the UPT campus.

The recent agreement established that Politehnica University Timișoara will accept first year undergraduate students from Dianzi University in Hangzhou. The exchange period is 4 months, and a first group of Chinese students will come to the university when the epidemiological conditions will allow, to the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering and Information Technology. Also, thematic summer schools will be organized, at the Faculty of Communication Sciences and at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering and Information Technologies.

Located in the historical and cultural city of Hangzhou, China, Dianzi University is a higher education institution with 30,000 students, which offers several fields of study. In 1980, the Hangzhou Institute of Electronic Engineering was established, which was later renamed Hangzhou Dianzi University, which is currently ranked among the highest institutions of higher education in Zhejiang Province .
