Gyde Hansen, DHC of the Polytechnic University Timisoara

On November 15, 2018, Politehnica University of Timişoara organized the ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the prof. emeritus Gyde Hansen, PhD. The proposal for granting the title came from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, which celebrates 25 years of transduction this year in UPT, its Dean, prof. Daniel Dejica-Cartiş, PhD, who was also the one who read Laudatio.

Professor Emeritus in the Business Communication Department at the prestigious Copenhagen Business School, Denmark (ranked 201-250 at the World University Rankings 2018), Mrs Gyde Hansen is an ad hoc member of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST) and former Vice-President of the Society for two mandates, between 2004-2010. Its research and interest areas include translation research methods, empirical research of translation processes, critical translation, revision of texts, pre-editing and post-editing of texts, translators training, textual and stylistic analysis, linguistic policies.

At the event, Ms. prof. dem. habil. Gyde Hansen, visibly excited at the receival of the robes and Doctor Honoris Causa of Politehnica University Timisoara, held a lecture titled The Status of Translation Studies Today in which she talked about the evolution of translation, the future of translations and the role of translators in the current context where the translation process is increasingly automated.

The collaboration between Gyde Hansen and Politehnica University Timişoara, the Faculty of Communication Sciences, the Department of Communication and Foreign Languages, started in 2008 and resulted in a series of didactic, research and publishing activities, including:

• Plenary Speaker at the Professional Communication and Translation Studies Conference, VIII Edition, 2013 (Lecture - From Translation to Translation Revision);
• Member of the Scientific Committee, participation and leadership of the works (German) at the Professional Communication and Translation Studies conference organized by the Department of Communication and Foreign Languages ​​of the UPT (5 editions of the conference in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017);
• Participating as a guest lecturer at a series of workshops for students or round tables, such as the Translating Pragmatic Texts workshop, organized within the Translation Studies Today (2009) series; Roundtable with International Participation Editing in Humanities and Social Sciences, Politehnica University Timisoara (2015); Round Table with International Participation Doing PhD research in Translation Studies: Trends and Perspectives, Politehnica University Timişoara (2017);
• Member of the Professional Review and Translation Studies volume published by the Politehnica Publishing House (10 numbers, starting with volume 2/2009 until now) and the Scientific Bulletin of Politehnica University Timisoara, Modern Languages ​​Series (6 numbers, starting with volume 12/2013 to date);
• Co-editing the Language volume in the Digital Era. Challenges and Perspectives, published by Walter DeGruyter (2017).
