In memory of Virgil Dan Negrea
The Department of Mechanical Machines, Machinery and Transport within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Politehnica University Timisoara organized on Thursday, November 28, 2019, the commemoration of one of the outstanding personalities of the UPT, prof. eng. dhc. Virgiliu Dan Negrea, PhD, a member of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, 10 years after his death.
On this occasion, there was presented the life and activity of the distinguished professor, a commemorative service and the unveiling of a plaque at the entrance to the Road Vehicle Laboratory, which will bear his name, Professor Virgiliu Dan Negrea being the one who established the Road Vehicle specialization at Politehnica University Timisoara, a specialization that, at the moment, is one of the most requested.
Born on January 16, 1942, Professor Virgiliu Dan Negrea attended from 1959-1964, the courses of the "Traian Vuia" Polytechnic Institute in Timisoara, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which he graduated as head of his promotion of the specialization Thermal Machines, with a diploma of merit.
Dedicated with seriousness and passion to studying, he was appointed university assistant from the end of the faculty and subsequently went through all the didactic degrees to that of university professor obtained in 1991. In 1976 he obtained the title of doctor engineer, with the thesis "Contributions to the calculation of the wave phenomenon from the inlet pipes of m.a.c. in four stages”, under the scientific leadership of Prof. Vasile Berindean, PhD.
The special results obtained in the scientific research were recommended by the doctoral supervisor in the field of Thermotechnics and Thermal Machines (1995-2009), and under his leadership 26 PhD students defended doctoral thesis, both from the country and from abroad.
Through his activity with great perseverance and skill, he was elected a full member of the Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania (2006), Doctor honoris Causa of the University of Oradea (2007), Member of the General Association of Engineers of Romania, Member of the Balkan Association of Environmental Protection, Chairman of the Commission for Combating Air Pollution of the Timișoara Branch of the Romanian Academy.
The special qualities of scientific researcher of Professor Virgiliu Dan Negrea were materialized in 2005 by the "Traian Vuia" Prize of the Romanian Academy for the monograph "Processes in internal combustion engines, economics, combating pollution". The entire research activity has materialized through a number of over 300 scientific papers published in the volumes of national and international scientific events, 23 scientific books / monographs published in central publishers.
In 2007, at the age of 65, he retired, continuing to lead the doctoral students until his death.
