The 4th edition of RoboTEC (Robot Engineering Contest), organized by Liga AC (Students’ League of the Faculty of Automation and Computers) with the support of Politehnica University Timișoara, the Faculty of Automation and Computers and IT&C companies, will take place between the 23rd-25th of March in Timișoara, Romania.

RoboTEC is an international robotics competition intended for students from Romania and abroad who are passionate about robotics and artificial intelligence. They have the chance to interact with other participants interested in this domain and to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills by building, programming and testing an autonomous robot.

The previous edition had 83 participants (37 teams) from Romania, Macedonia, Poland and Serbia.

Maximum 3 students can form a team, having the option to be guided by a coordinating teacher (mentor).

The contest has 7 challenges:

  • Line Follower Classic - This challenge follows the competence of the teams to build a robot able to follow a black line on a white surface, in the shortest time possible.
  • Line Follower Enhanced - The objective is to complete the course in the shortest period of time while accurately tracking the line from start to finish. The difference between this one and Line Follower Classic is that additional obstacles will be added on the track: walls, line interruptions, inverted colours.
  • Line Follower Turbo - in addition to the classic Line Follower challenge, this one has a loop wide enough for the robot to put its speed to test by going through that loop without falling off. For safety measures, the robot must be equipped with an EDF (electric ducted fan).
  • Mini Sumo & Mega Sumo - At this part of the contest, the teams must build a robot capable to push another robot out of the arena. Those challenges only differ by the dimension and weight of the robot.
  • Maze - This one challenges the robot to find the shortest path from the starting cell of a labyrinth to its final cell.
  • Freestyle - At this part of the contest, the contestants must build a robot as unique and interesting as possible and they have to present it to the public and to the jury.

Registrations are open until the 5th of February for participants who need visa and until the 25th of February for European citizens.

The organizers are offering free meals & accommodation, awesome prizes and other surprises to the participants. Also, there is no participation fee.
