Additionally, a gallery of the former deans of the Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara was inaugurated, in the main hall of the C building of the faculty.

During the event, the rector of Politehnica University Timișoara, associate professor Florin Dragan, Ph.D., emphasized that the half-century of the Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara is intertwined with that of the parent institution, UPT, both being created to train specialists for the region and further, experts who have managed to meet the requirements of industrial development, but both also offered a number of leaders, both in the administration and in companies.

The dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara, associate professor, Gelu-Ovidiu Tirian, Ph.D., emphasized the fact that at present FIH represents prestige, value, and academic excellence, all these thanks to the teachers, on the one hand, but also to the students, on the other hand, who, through their sustained effort, have made the faculty a landmark of higher education in Hunedoara and beyond.

Mayor Dan Bobouțanu declared that he urges the young graduates to run for the positions put up for competition by Hunedoara City Hall, adding that the institution he leads is proud of the fact that in Hunedoara there is a prestigious faculty like FIH.

The establishment of the School of Engineering represented in 1970, in addition to the desire and ambition of local elites, a result of the entire experience gained in the main industrial complexes located in the Hunedoara area (mining, steel, civil and industrial construction). The Steelworks in Hunedoara has always been a school where apprentices, workers, and technicians were trained, both for the factory and for the rest of the steel industry in the country and beyond. Along with the mining and steel activity around Hunedoara, a strong energy industry developed, its highlights being the thermal power plants from Mintia and Paroşeni, as well as the hydroelectric power plants from Râul Mare.

The Institute of Sub-Engineers from Hunedoara was founded in 1970, based on H.C.M. 1272/1970. At the establishment, the Institute provided day and evening courses, having two educational profiles: Metallurgical, with the specializations Furnaces and Steelworks; Plastic Deformations and Heat Treatments; respectively Electromechanic with the specialization Technological Electromechanics. Starting with the academic year 1974-1975, together with the approval of the institutions and faculties from the network of the Ministry of Education, by the Decree of the State Council no. 147/1974, the Institute of Sub-Engineers from Hunedoara was subordinated to the Polytechnic Institute "Traian Vuia" from Timişoara. The Institute of Sub-Engineers became the Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara in the academic year 1990-1991. The faculty currently has over 750 students and over 80 teachers.
