The 38th Conference of the Rectors and Presidents of European Universities of Technology (CRP 2019), the most important research and innovation debate forum, held on September 13-14, 2019 in Budapest, brought together the leaders of all institutions of higher education in Europe. Politehnica University Timisoara was represented at the event by Prof. eng. Viorel-Aurel Șerban, PhD, the rector of the institution, and Prof. eng. Daniel Dan, PhD, Rector.

Within it, topics that were not sufficiently discussed in other forums were tackled. There was talk of the new research program of the European Union - Horizon Europe, about the future of research in Europe but also about the future of the relationship between industry and universities, ways in which the scientific community and the professional development of the academic communities or models to increase the economic impact will be supported. that have the institutions of higher technical education.

Given that Horizon 2020, the European framework program for research and innovation, is in its final stage, and the preparation of Horizon Europe is well advanced, CRP 2019 was a great time to debate the features of the new program, institutional strategies and measures. which must be taken by universities in order to take full advantage of the new framework program. Horizon Europe will play a key role in the development of research and innovation in Europe, as well as its position in the world, by 2027.

Rector of UPT, Prof. eng. Viorel-Aurel Serban, PhD, presented during the conference the approaches for improving the relevance of the research in the Romanian universities and the important role that the Romanian Alliance of Technical Universities (ARUT), whose president is, can play.

In his presentation, the rector of Politehnica University Timisoara highlighted some of the specific aspects facing the Romanian higher education system in the field of scientific research and the position of the Romanian universities in the Horizon 2020 research program. Also, the rector of the UPT proposed a set of measures to increase the success rate of the projects in the new Horizon Europe research program.
