UPT Library Awards, 4th edition

It has already become a tradition of Politehnica University Timișoara Library to reward its most active readers every year, for Dragobete. In 2021, at the 4th edition, which took place on Wednesday, February 24, in the central hall of the UPT Library, in the special conditions caused by the pandemic, three students and a teacher were awarded, being the most active users, by the number of read works.

During the festivity, prof. univ. eng. Sorin Mușuroi, Ph.D., vice-rector of UPT, presented the message of the university management, made a brief recollection of the previous editions, emphasizing the artistic side that accompanied each of the previous editions, and concluded with an urge to read, hoping to go back to ‘normal’ activities as soon as possible. Dr. eng. Agneta Lovasz, Ph.D., director of the UPT Library, emphasized that, throughout the pandemic, the library did not close its doors completely, but tried to adapt to the special conditions imposed by the epidemiological situation, and assoc. prof. eng. Alina Dumitrel, Ph.D., vice-rector of UPT, expressed her joy that in the current context, in which most of the activities take place online, the concern for reading and knowledge in general drives students.

During the 4th edition of the UPT Library Awards, the following readers were rewarded:

• Prof. dr. Petru Benea, Ph.D., a daily presence at the UPT Library, who praised the facilities and services provided;
• Ioan Muntian, student at the Faculty of Electrical and Power Engineering of UPT - first prize;
• Florin Vârjan Popescu, student at the Faculty of Automation and Computers of UPT - second prize;
• George Silviu Ciucă, student at the Faculty of Communication Sciences within UPT - 3rd prize.

The event concluded with an emotional recital by Maria Hojda and Horia Crișovan, who performed both a composition by Horia ("I'm Coming Home My Mom") and a series of songs from the international repertoire ("What a wonderful World”,“Red Bone”, “Dance Monkey”). Both artists confessed their emotion, but also their joy, to sing again, after a long time, in front of an audience, even small in number.

The event was broadcast live on the Facebook pages of the University and the UPT Library.
