Our story

We carry forward the tradition of academic excellence at UPT. Our study programmes are systematically aligned to the needs of industry, emerging technologies, and contemporary societal challenges.

The ten faculties within UPT train community-engaged specialists equipped with critical thinking, who practice with integrity and drive innovation across diverse fields: technology, architecture, applied sciences, communication, industrial engineering, and beyond.

UPT's 25 research centres convene interdisciplinary teams exploring energy, mobility, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, digital security, industrial technologies, and sustainable solutions for society.

Research results take shape in prototypes, tested technologies, patents, industrial partnerships, and real-world applications.

The UPT campus constitutes a vibrant, evolving ecosystem: advanced laboratories, an open-access library, 16 dormitories, sports complexes, a healthcare centre, and dedicated spaces where technology, art, and student life converge.

Within this environment, over 13,500 students, 800 academic staff members, and 1,000 employees form a diverse, open, and engaged community.

We connect Timișoara to the global academic landscape through scholarly and cultural partnerships, fostering a culture of collaboration and diversity.

UPT is a member of the European university alliance E³UDRES² and other extensive international networks encompassing partners across Europe, the USA, Asia, and South America. Our students and researchers actively take part in international mobility programmes, international projects, and global initiatives, returning with knowledge, perspectives, and collaborations that strengthen UPT's standing within the global academic community.

Founded in 1920, Politehnica University of Timisoara is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in Eastern Europe.

For over a century, our university has served as a cornerstone of economic, cultural, and social development in the Banat region and Romania. UPT graduates continue to carry the UPT spirit forward into research laboratories, urban development, and innovation teams worldwide.

Our 2024–2029 strategy is focused on advancing digital transformation, fostering multidisciplinary research, promoting inclusion, and developing a more sustainable campus. Through these priorities, we aim to create an academic environment where students, faculty, researchers, and partners can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
